Raymond Cruz

Born on July 9, 1961, in Los Angeles, California, Raymond Cruz is an actor of Mexican ancestry best known for playing Tuco Salamanca, a violent and psychotic meth dealer, on Breaking Bad and for his role as Detective Julio Sanchez in the series The Closer. He also stars on the series Major Crimes, a spinoff of The Closer, reprising the role of Sanchez.

His film roles include Ding Chavez in Clear and Present Danger, with Harrison Ford, Hector in Out For Justice, Tom Berenger’s second-in-command Joey Six in The Substitute, U.S. Marine Sergeant Rojas in The Rock, Jesus in From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money, USM Private Vincent DiStephano in Alien Resurrection, with Sigourney Weaver, and Ramirez in Under Siege.

Cruz appeared as Chuey, a gang member from the Vatos Locos, in the gang film Blood In Blood Out. He also played Chino in Havoc, with Anne Hathaway, and appeared in Gremlins 2: The New Batch, credited as “The Messenger”, in Training Day as a gang member named Sniper, and as a Los Angeles firefighter in Collateral Damage, with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

On television, Cruz has had recurring roles on My Name is Earl, Day Break, The Division, 24 and Nip/Tuck. He has also guest starred on numerous hit shows, including CSI, CSI: Miami, NYPD Blue, The Practice, Star Trek, Boomtown and The X-Files. He won an Imagen Award for Best Supporting Actor for his work on The Closer and also has an extensive stage background. He is a recipient of the Drama Critics award.
